Join the community

A few weeks ago, I asked Fable readers to recommend the best audiobooks for people trying the format for the first time. You did not disappoint!
We received well over 1,000 suggestions, and I pulled out the top 10 most recommended audiobooks currently available on Fable's sister app, Everand. If you want to try Everand, you can start a 30-day trial and choose one of these audiobooks for free (or any other audiobook in the catalog).
Top 10 audiobooks for beginners
Along with all these recommendations, I’ve included quotes from some of the Fable readers as well – thanks for helping new audiobook readers discover this life-changing format!
“Daisy Jones & the Six” by Taylor Jenkins Reid
Charlie E: “A phenomenal audiobook. I loved that it had multiple people cast as each character...made it feel like I was listening to a movie.”
“Remarkably Bright Creatures” by Shelby Van Pelt
Celine: “Such a beautiful and cute story, and the narration is great. Truly, it’s what made me consume so many more audiobooks!!!”
“None of This Is True” by Lisa Jewell
Apriltee: “A great audiobook read for me because the sound engineering elements they added made parts of it sound like a real podcast, which was super cool.”
“Powerless” by Lauren Roberts
Maddie: "It’s a fantasy series with deadly trials. The person who voices Kai is just perfect for the character. The tension is so thick you could cut it with a knife!”
“A Good Girl's Guide to Murder” by Holly Jackson
Alisha D: “Such a well-done audiobook! The narrator is talented and has a great tone, and there’s just enough other voices in the right places to be interesting and not overdone.”
“Listen for the Lie” by Amy Tintera
Samantha S: “This book was perfect for an audiobook because much of the plot is discussed on podcast episodes.”
“Greenlights” by Matthew McConaughey
BrittneyB: “I always recommend Greenlights by Matthew McConaughey because his voice is so therapeutic and easy to listen to.”
“The Silent Patient” by Alex Michaelides
Gabs: “I’ve been reading my whole life, but could never get into audiobooks. This is the first book to ever keep me focused while listening. 10/10!”
“The Hobbit” by J.R.R. Tolkien
Maria T: “When narrated by Andy Serkis, The Hobbit is a whole performance!!!”
“I’m Glad My Mom Died” by Jennette McCurdy
ChaiTea: “Jannette McCurdy narrated the book herself, and her emotions just add to it. I’d recommend that for anyone who’s trying to get into reading audiobooks.”
