Gifts that Give Back: 4 Charitable Gift Ideas

The end-of-year holidays are a time of joy and generosity. Charitable gifts are a great way to give a sustainable gift that gives back to the planet. Here are a few types of charitable gifts to consider.
Make a Donation in Their Name
Instead of giving a tangible gift, you could make a donation to organizations that are tirelessly fighting the climate crisis and are working towards building a more sustainable planet. Manu organizations are tax-exempt as well.
If you need ideas, here are some of our favorite environmental orgs.
"Adopt" and Animal or Plant a Tree
Some orgs give you the opportunity to personalize your donation a bit more. Through WWF and Born Free you can “adopt” an endangered animal and your money goes to supporting those animals. While the [Arbor Day Foundation and The [Nature Conservancy] let you plant trees in someone’s name.
Plan a Volunteer Day
Experiential gifts are some of our favorite kinds, and you can make them charitable too! Find organizations near you that make it easy to volunteer.
You could look for local beach cleanups, animal organizations, food justice organizations, composting groups, gardening orgs, or nature cleanups.
Then make a day of it! Plan a day for you and your giftee to volunteer and perhaps grab some lunch or catch a movie after. You'll make memories, and give back to your community.
Buy Gifts from the Stores of Non-profits
If you still want to have something to wrap in a bow, consider perusing the shops (real life or online) of some of your favorite orgs.
Surfrider Foundation is working on protecting our oceans, and they’ve got a beautiful apparel and accessories section. If you’re unable to decide, you could also purchase a gift card. The National Wildlife Federation also has an incredible assortment of holiday gifts for both you and wildlife.
